You will need a total of 48 CEU hours of training within the 2-year period to renew your CNA Certification.
CDPH will accept 24 CEU hours or more that are completed in-class from an approved training facility. CDPH will also accept online CEU hours from an approved computer training program, but you are limited to a maximum of 24 CEU hours. Both combined will total to 48 CEU hours of training. (Pls refer to the link above for the list of CDPH-approved online computer training programs)
It will only count towards your renewal if your facility is also an approved training site recognized by CDPH. Typically, facilities that are approved to provide CEU training hours have a valid NAC#. Please confirm with both CDPH and your place of employment if they are an approved CEU provider.
Yes! You can still renew your certification, as long as you meet the requirements for renewal. One of the requirements CDPH requires is you must have worked as a CNA/HHA in a facility with compensation within your 2-year certification period. And you must provide the facility information plus the dates of employment in your renewal application.
If you didn't work as a CNA/HHA at all within your 2-year certification, and if you did not complete at least 12 hours of CEU training in-class in your first year, and you do not have a total of 48 CEU hours before your certification expires, then your only other choice is to retake the State Competency Exam again. You will need to request for an approval letter from CDPH to authorize you to retake the State Exam. And they can provide you with the information to schedule the exam through Credentia. *YOU WILL ONLY HAVE ONE (1) CHANCE TO CHALLENGE THE STATE EXAM TO BE RECERTIFIED.
Unfortunately, CDPH does not accept any online CEU hours to renew your HHA Certification. You must complete 12 CEU hours in-class the first year and another 12 CEU hours in class the second year. You will need a total of 24 CEU hours of in-class training from an approved training facility within your 2-year certification period for renewal.
You can send it two different ways, via mail or through CDPH submission portal. Unfortunately, CDPH no longer accepts applications through fax or emails.
We will do our best to help you! We offer CEU classes almost every week. Give us a call or register online to schedule for the next class we have available!
Each of our class is worth 4 hours of CEU training and the cost per class is $72. We do have a non-refundable registration fee of $35 per certification period that allows you to complete a maximum of 24 CEU hours at CCVC.
If you were not able to find answers to your questions here, please give us a call or reach us via email. We are more than happy to answer any questions for you.
The very first time you receive your CNA/HHA Certification, the first year of your certification period will start on the day it was issued to you (example given: 03/20/18) up to the follow year of your birthday (example given: 05/15/19).
The second year of certification period will begin the day after your birthday (example given: 05/16/19) and will end the following year of your birthday (example given: 05/15/20). This late date is also your expiration date because it is the end of your 2-year certification period.
You MUST complete at least 12 CEU in-class training hours within your FIRST year of certification period up to a maximum of 24 CEU hours (example given: 03/20/18-05/15/19).
If you have completed 24 CEU hours in your first year, then you will need to complete another 24 CEU hours within the dates in your second year to have a total of 48 CEU hours (example given: 05/16/19-05/15/20).
If you have only complete 12 CEU hours within your first year, then you must complete 36 CEU hours within your second year to have a total of 48 CEU hours.
Remember that CDPH will only accept a maximum of 24 CEU online hours.
